he was introduced to painting in 1972 by Calixte Henri. Hen

Wilson
Bigaud
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1931 and
started his career sculpting clay. He was encouraged to take
up painting by Dewitt Peters and enrolled at the Centre d'Art.
One of his paintings entitled "Paradise" won second
prize at an international exhibit in Washington in 1950 and
is now part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern
Art in New York. That same year, he painted his masterpiece,
"The Wedding of Cana", famous murals of the Episcopalian
Cathedral in Port-Au-Prince. Several nervous breakdowns have
affected his work.
Carel
Blain
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on November
23, 1961, he is a self-taught artist. He lives in Petionville
where he continues to paint.
Jean-Claude Blanc
Born in Cap-Haitian in 1965. He has exhibited
his work in galleries in Cap-Haitian, France and The USA.
Henri
Robert Bresil
Born in Gonaives in September 1952, he moved
to Port-au-Prince in 1973 where he took up painting. In 1981
he received the ISPAN-UNESCO prize. His works were exhibited
in The USA, Puerto Rico, Japan, France, Italy and Switzerland.
He died in Haiti in 1999.
Dieudonne
Cedor
Born in Anse-a-Veau, Haiti on March 8, 1925,
Cedor joined the Centre d'Art in 1947 where he served on the
board of administration. During 1949 and 1975 his work was
exhibited both in Haiti and abroad in various countries such
as Guatemala, Mexico, Cuba,
Germany, Belgium,Holland Venezuela, Columbia, Panama and the
USA.
Phillipe Claude
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on January
8, 1954, Phillipe Claude started drawing and painting at "Academie
des Beaux Arts" in 1970. In 1972 he went to "Foyer
des Arts Plastiques" where he stayed for two years after
which he started to work alone, experimenting new techniques.
His work demonstrates a love for details and bright colors.
He has exhibited in France and the USA.

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1957, Desmangles
is a self-taught artist.
Roland
Dorcely
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1930, he
joined the Centre d'Art in 1946. That same year, he went to
France where he studied with Andre Masson and Fernand Leger.
His work has been exhibited in France, Canada, Colombia and
the USA. His paintings can be seen at the Museum of Modern
Art in Paris as well as The New York Museum of Modern Art.

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1936 Franketienne
is a writer, poet and actor. His first exhibit was held at
the Dante Allighieri Hall of the Italian Embassy. His work
is very vibrant and colorful.

Etienne
Born in Gonaives, Haiti in 1952, Jean Bernard
Etienne is a self-thaught artist. Through is work, he conveys
his passion for pictural expression and he depicts the candor
of childhood. His children's portraits have brought him fame.
Levoy
Exil
Born in Soisson-la-Montagne, Haiti on October
19, 1944, Levoy Exil is one of the best-known artists of the
Saint-Soleil School. He has participated in the pretigious
exhibit "Haiti: Art Naif, Art Vaudou" held at the
Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais in Paris in 1988.
Jacques
Engerrand Gourgue
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1931, Gourgue
is a self-taught artist who began painting at an early age.
He was only 17 when his work was displayed in The Museum of
Modern Art in New York and one of his paintings, "The
Magic Table", is still Prt of the museum's permanent
collection. His work has been part of pretigious shows in
Europe, North America, Latin America and has been autioned
at Sothebys and Christies. He died in Port-au-Prince, Haiti
in 1996.

Ismael
Born in Petite-Riviere de l'Artibonite, Haiti,
in April 1940, he began painting in 1956 and in 1985 he became
in charge of the Ceramics Center in Deschappelle, Haiti. He
died in 1999.
Carlos
Jean Baptiste
Born in Deschapelles, Haiti in 1964, he started
learning with Saincilius Ismael in 1978. Art crititcs and
successful artists are amazed at the quality of his work and
refer to him as the unknown master. Boris Kravitz, founder
of the Haitian Art Company sees him as an exciting artist.
His technical skills, discipline, talent and creativity make
of him a remarkable artist with exceptional potential.

Lafaille
Born in 1956 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Raymond
Lafaille has emerged as an accomplished artist whose work
is very sought after by collectors of Haitian art. He has
exhibited on numerous occasions in the Dominican Republic.
Stivenson
Magloire
Born in Petionville, Haiti in 1963, he is
the son of well-known Saint-Soleil artist, Louisianne St.
Fleurant. Stivenson Magloire is a self-taught artist who started
painting very young and gained recognition very early. Unfortunately,
he died in 1994.

Born in Petionville on February 2, 1967,
Frantz Mathieu started painting in 1983.
Allrich
Moca
Born in Port-au-Prince on July 23, 1976 he
won the first prize of the art contest organized by the Galerie
d'Art. He has since participated in various art exhibits and
contests.
Salnave Philippe-Auguste
Born in Saint-Marc, Haiti in 1908, Philippe-Auguste
is a self-educated lawyer who only started to paint in 1958.
He joined the Centre d'Art in 1960 and through his art, created
a universe where animals and humans lived together in peace.
His work has been exhibited both in Haiti and abroad and is
very sought after by collectors.
Moab Polidor
Born in Leogane, Haiti on October 31, 1971,
Moab Polidor studied art at the Roy Frantz Charles art school
in Leogane. Through his work, he celebrates woman's beauty.
He has participated in various exhibits in Santo Domingo.
Michel
Valestin
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1962, Valestin
is a young artist with exceptional talent whose style is still
evolving. His work is very popular with both European and
American collectors.
Jean Walton
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1979, Walton
started painting as a little boy. He is a young artist whose
work is much favored by Haitian Art collectors.
